Ex-girlfriend likely target of gym shooting

The gunman who recently killed four women at an aerobics class in southwestern Pennsylvania is likely to have set out to target his ex-girlfriend.

On Wednesday, Post-Gazette published in Pittsburgh, where the incident happened, quoted two sources as saying that the shooter's ex-girlfriend was among the 10 wounded.

Yesterday, the gunman entered the class of about 20-22 women, switched off the lights and went on the shooting spree before taking his own life, The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review quoted Allegheny County Police Superintendent Charles Moffatt as saying.

Identified as George Sodini, he reportedly posted some comments on his blog on the eve of the killings, hinting at his motive.

"Maybe all this will shed insight on why some people just cannot make things happen in their life, which can potentially benefit others," read one of the postings according to USA Today.

"Any of the 'Practice Papers' left on my coffee table I used or the notes in my gym bag can be published freely," the 48-year-old reportedly wrote in another comment.

The police have recovered some notes from the handbag Sodini had been carrying with himself to conceal the firearms. "Tomorrow is the big day … I will not be embarrassed, because, well, I will be dead."
